Training & Development
Swish recognises that a well trained workforce that is encouraged to develop its knowledge and skills on a continuous basis will make a major contribution to the competitiveness and success of the company.
Swish is committed to sustainable development and as part of this wishes to see its workforce trained in a range of appropriate skills to achieve flexible coverage. In addition the company wishes to increase its employee’s awareness and appreciation of quality, environmental and Health & Safety issues.
2010 Training
Swish departmental managers maintain training plans which sets out the training history and future training requirements. During 2010 the following general training was undertaken:
Health and Safety 2010
- All employees in the company received manual handling training from an external provider. Certain employees were trained as trainers themselves to pass on the skills acquired to new employees.
- In order to reduce accidents in certain departments a number of Health and Safety Awareness training sessions were undertaken.
- Training was given to a number of employees to undertake risk assessments
- Six employees were trained to undertake internal systems audits
Health and Safety 2011
Plans are in place for 2011 to:
- Provide Health and Safety awareness training for all employees
- Energy awareness training for all employees
- Specialist H&S and quality assessment training for frontline production operatives.
General
It is the general policy of Swish to provide training as neccessary as follows:
- Review of any updates needed to areas set out in the induction
- The company’s Corporate Responsibility policy for sustainable development
- Requirements of the law relating to the business and its activities
- Management skills eg communication skills, project & people management
- Personal development eg time management, leadership, delegation, team working
- Other training as may be needed or requested by individual employees
Individual departments draw up their own programmes to satisfy this requirement.
Training Results
In 2011 Swish set up a set of criteria for assessing training performance. At the end of the year all departments will formally report levels of training completed. The target is:
- 100% of all inductions completed (mandatory)
- 80% of all planned training completed
Alll SHEQ training undertaken during 2010 was reviewed in the Annual Management Review meeting in Jan 2011. Reporting of training undertaken in 2011 will be on a formal basis for all Departments at the Management review for 2011 (Jan 2012). The results will then be published on this website.
