Since achieving ISO 14001 certification Swish has continued to improve the environmental performance of its manufacturing and distribution operations, with the most significant achievement being a considerable reduction in waste of all kinds being sent for landfill as well as reductions in energy and fuel usage.
Swish has been working hard to lessen its environmental
impact. An environmental management system was put in place in 2007
and a number of objectives and targets were set.
To achieve certification Swish's main objectives were to
reduce electricity, water and heater fuel consumption. In
addition the company set itself ambitious targets
for cutting the amount of waste sent to landfill and the CO2
emissions from delivery vehicles.
Going forward Swish will be looking to achieve even higher
targets as a range of initiatives are introduced to reduce waste
and further cut the amount of water and
electricity used.
Swish ISO 14001 certification is also important in a very
practical way for developers who wish to specify PVC
roofline.
It allows them to claim vital points for responsible sourcing
under the Code for Sustainable Homes. PVC building materials save
social housing providers and homeowners alike a significant amount
of money that would otherwise be paid out in maintenance costs over
the lifetime of the building.
