Soffits may be made up of flat boards or cladding profiles in unvented or vented formats.

Where ventilation is not provided through the soffit (either directly through the board or by means of ventilation strips) it must be provided over the top of the fascia board.

Range Notes
Standard lengths are 5m. Non standard lengths may be supplied where a commercial requirement exists.
A full range of matching, purpose-made mouldings is available for joints, internal and external angles, as well as general purpose trims.

Range Information:

Characteristics
 Soffit boards are 9mm thick.
Cladding profiles are 6mm thick but are deeper at their interlock (16mm) to provide for secret fixing.
Cladding is especially suited as a soffit for large or highly visible areas, such as porches, where the number of visible fixings need to be minimised. Cladding also adds interest, perceived quality and value to the property.

Important Design and Installation notes:
Degraded timber must be replaced and all new timbers should be preservative treated.
Soffit bearers must be provided to the foot of every rafter and be securely supported at each end. A preferred method is to employ robust battens screwed to the rafters (Fig7).
An early decision should be made as to the provision of ventilation, either over the fascia (Fig24) or through the soffit (Fig6).
Where cladding is used allow for the overall thickness of the cladding profile when specifying the fascia height. (Fig16).
Always specify the recommended fixing materials and fixing centres.
Whilst the bottom groove in each fascia board accommodates the soffit board by simple push fit, Fig16 & Fig17 show alternative relationships for the fascia and soffit.
At the wall, the soffit may be designed to sit on the last course of bricks (Fig37) or abut to the wall. In new build situations it is sometimes possible to dispense with several courses of bricks if the former approach is planned into the design.

Important Information

Installation Sequence
The bearers should be checked for line and level and suitable packings applied where required.
Install soffit boards, nailing to each soffit bearer with 40mm Trimtop nails (C081) or capped screws (C074).
Soffit boards can be joined using push-fit trim C041(Fig7), cut to the desired width and leaving a 4mm expansion gap at each board end. (Fig3)
Allow the soffit board to protrude beyond the rafter foot by 10mm in order to locate into the slot at the rear of the fascia board.
